The 25 Year Bet

Kevin Kelly is apart of the Wired company as an executive editor who was determined to interview Patrick Sale about his ideology. Patrick Sale is an author who wrote a book that told the story of workers fighting against machinery of the Industrial Revolution. Kelly hated Sales book as it insulted Kelly’s personal beliefs. Sale believed that it striped away labor from workers whereas Kelly saw it as an easier way to do work. The bet made is that Sale believes society would collapse in 2020 and Kelly challenged him to bet on it. As stated in the text, twenty five years later the economy has been at an all time high. The mere dollar is nowhere near the value it held 25 years ago. The state of environmental disaster has increased, but nobody seems to care as much as they should. Reading on Screens

When reading the article Reading on Screens , I completely understood the statement the article is trying to make. The article explains how reading from printed text is much easier to digest and comprehend than reading on a technological device. I agree that the preferred method of reading is on paper. When I read on my phone, I tend to skim through and search for key points that stick out and create a generalized concept based on my findings. When I read on paper, I typically follow along much better. A downside of using our phones so frequently is a result of worsened posture. Shamefully, I catch myself hunched completely over when using my phone which affects my posture. Similar to this picture, I look like this too often. This video I found talks about how technology is worsening mental health and stripping away fundamental ideas about how to socialize with others. Exploring Brand Guidelines Today I looked at two brands, I Heart NY and Walmart, the dove deeper into what makes their branding so successful. These two brands have obviously recognizable logos and names for themselves. Let’s get into it. First up, I Love NY Consistency is a major factor in this brand. It helps increase the awareness and provokes emotion in the viewer. They key element is the simplicity of the design, it makes it easy to remember and recognizable. The bold typography also helps quickly identity and understand the brand. It has become a significant part of New York’s branding and identity embraced by everyone. Their Mission: Make it speak to the entire state. To show passion and energy present in every city within New York.
